Debating is a cultural activity that allows pupils the opportunity to develop important skills and so gain wit, flair and confidence.
C.B.C. Boksburg is a member of the SACEE (South African Council for English Education) debating league. In the past the team has been very successful, getting as far as the finals. The enthusiasm and dedication shown by those boys contributes positively to their cultural development.
CBC Boksburg Pipe-Band
There are those within modern educational circles who strongly criticize tradition. “Out with the old, and in with the new”, they say. I am somewhat of a traditionalist myself and I would contend that there are definitely some traditions well worth keeping – and, in the case of the CBC pipe-band, those worth restoring. There is surely nothing as enchanting as the distant sound of the Scottish bagpipe echoing through the hallways of a school – uplifting, inspiring and rejuvenating!
For years, the CBC Boksburg Pipe-band was a force to be reckoned with in the piping fraternity. Sadly, in the early nineties, the band was disbanded – a huge loss to the College.
In April, 2001, it was decided to make an attempt to resurrect the band. With the generous assistance of Mr. Gerard Knobel (piping tutor), and Mr. Francios Badenhorst (drumming tutor), we have been working very hard ever since, to produce a band.
In 2005, our own pipe band lead the procession out of the grounds during the Valedictory Ceremony.
