PRIMARY SCHOOL
-
Mr Henry Moolman
The
start of the extra-mural programme was well supported and enjoyed by
most. I emphasize that the
programme pertains to the Primary School only and does not include the
Pre-Primary at all.
The
establishing of routines and communication channels remains the focus of
the school at the beginning of every year.
The lads have settled remarkably well into their new routines.
Communication remains a challenge for a few, though.
To
those parents who are anxious about leaving their son who does not
separate easily, please note that it is in their best interest to follow
a “leave and go” approach. Within
a short space of time a teary-eyed boy is running about enjoying himself
with his friends. Should
this not be the case we will discuss the matter with you.
I hasten to add that, on the whole, this time of adjustment has
gone very well so far.
CRICKET
Due
to the keen interest shown in cricket a decision to separate the Year
One and Year Two practices has been made.
By doing so we can significantly reduce the number of players per
coach, which will hopefully result in a more productive time for all
involved. As from next
week the programme sees the following changes—
Tuesday—Year
One (13h30—14h15)
Thursday—Year
Two (13h30—14h15)
Tuesday
and Thursday—Year Three (13h30—14h30)
NB—On
match days, boys not involved will still have their normal practice.
Every effort will be made to have every boy play in a match.
Where this is not possible, derby matches will be arranged.
This is not applicable to the Year Threes who are playing in an
official league. For them
their first match of the season is against St Dunstan’s this Saturday.
Every
boy must be turned out in their sports skills kit and hat for practice
He will not be able to do so if the correct attire is not worn.
TENNIS
Mrs
Barrett, our tennis coach, will liaise with the parents regarding the
purchase of a tennis racquet.
RAINY DAY ARRANGEMENTS
Before
school—Boys are to go straight to their class and not the quad.
Their teachers will be there to receive them.
Extra-murals—Should
a practice be rained out, the boys will be in the care of the
responsible staff and can be fetched from their classes at 14h15.
PARTICIPATION IN EXTRA-MURALS
I
have had a few queries regarding participation in the extra-mural
programme. The only
compulsory activity every boy must be involved in is sport.
All other activities are by choice.
Every boy must be involved in at least ONE sport offered per
term; he may choose more but
should be aware of possible clashes that may arise.
SWIMMING
This
activity involves the Year Three boys only, and their programme is
integrated with the Prep. School Programme.
Parents will be kept informed of arrangements as they arise.
GENERAL
Upgrades
Thank
you to Mrs Stoop and her team for the alterations carried out in our
Year 000 class. Extra
lighting and plugs were installed and a dry wall put up.
I thank the parents and Mrs Chaplin for their understanding
during this time.
The
boys’ upstairs toilets are undergoing a total upgrade and will be out
of commission for the foreseeable future.
Parents are requested to please not use the stairs as these have
been cordoned off to prevent any injury.
Parents’
Evening
Mr
Connell will address parents this evening, Thursday 22 January at 18h30
in the Hall. After his
address parents are afforded an opportunity to meet the staff in their
classroom to be enlightened concerning the peculiar routine and
arrangements affecting each class. I
encourage every parent to attend.
