Cultural Activities

Debating

Debating is a valued cultural activity at CBC Boksburg, offering pupils the opportunity to develop critical thinking, articulate communication, and self-confidence.

The school proudly fields both junior and senior debating teams, which actively participate in the SACEE Debating League as well as the National Debating League. Our debaters engage thoughtfully with a wide range of contemporary social and political issues, refining their reasoning and public speaking skills in a competitive yet enriching environment.

In addition to external competitions, our pupils also take part in inter-house and inter-school debates throughout the academic year, further enhancing their abilities and fostering a spirit of intellectual curiosity and respectful discourse.

Public Speaking

Grade 8 and 9 learners are introduced to the art of public speaking in their weekly cultural period. Boys who want to develop this skill may enter the Speech and Drama College of South Africa Public Speaking Festival as teams or individual speakers. CBC hosts some of the public speaking evenings and our matric cultural leaders are involved as Masters of Ceremonies at these events.

CBC also hosts an annual Eisteddfod, where learners showcase various performance offerings such as poetry, original work, instrumental and vocal items as well as dramatic monologue and duologue in English, Afrikaans and IsiZulu.

Marimbas & Band

The marimba ensemble is made up of two bands; the Primary School and High School. These bands play occasionally College Masses, Liturgies and Assemblies. Out of College, the bands play at the Annual Marimba Festivals held around Gauteng.

The College Band continues to grow year in and year out. The band is an important facet of the Cultural Portfolio in the College as they play at Masses, Liturgies, Assemblies, Parishes and at many other functions where they are invited.
