About the Junior Primary

The Junior Primary School enters boys aged 4 in Grade 000 and follows through to boys in Grade 3. Bright, interactive classrooms and busy days characterise the Primary School. Class sizes vary with maximum numbers of 15 in Grade 000, 20 in Grade 00 and 25 in the other classes.

Our qualified team of teachers follows the newly integrated Curriculum and Assessment Policy Statements (CAPS) as set out by the Department of Education.

Careful attention has been paid to what is being taught in the classroom so that from Grade 000 to Grade 0 foundational concepts are built on each year. Our in house school programmes also include music, movement skills, perceptual skills, art, drama rings, computer skills as well as visits to our school media centre.

Our Pre-Primary and Primary section of the school is characterised by energetic activity, laughter, and learning. Here our boys are lovingly guided, and nurtured and encouraged by a motivated well qualified staff to achieve their potential. We thrive to instil lifelong values, manners and ethics, in our quest to create little CBC gentlemen.

Curriculum & Ethos

Grade 1 – 3 boys are exposed to the main learning areas: namely English, Mathematics, Afrikaans and Life Skills. Specialist teachers are employed for Music, Robotics, Computers, Library, Physical Education, and Art.

Boys attend an assembly once a week and each class is given an opportunity to lead the assembly. Individual classes also have an opportunity to present an item of entertainment at these assemblies. All classes attend liturgical singing preparation classes once a week and Liturgies are often held to celebrate important events on the Catholic Church calendar in additional to monthly Mass.  Religious Education classes are part of the school curriculum. Practising Catholics do the sacrament of First Holy Communion in Grade 3.

Support & Sport

An effective in-house team comprising a Remedial, Occupational and Speech Therapist are available during school hours to provide further support for those requiring academic assistance. Our experienced pastoral team is well equipped to sensitively deal with the boys’ spiritual and emotional needs.

We believe that participation in healthy physical activity and competition is essential in fostering a spirit of community and co-operation, and it is therefore compulsory for all boys to involve themselves in the varied sports offered.

The Junior Primary School offers our boys a solid grounding and preparation for what is later required, while allowing the boys the time to grow in a caring and nurturing environment.
