Debating is a cultural activity that allows pupils the opportunity to develop important skills and so gains wit, flair and confidence.
C.B.C. Boksburg is a member of the SACEE (South African Council for English Education) debating league. In the past the team has been very successful, getting as far as the finals. The enthusiasm and dedication shown by those boys contribute positively to their cultural development.
College Pipeband
The CBC pipe band was founded in 1939, playing its first competition in 1943. The success achieved on several occasions during the 60’s, 70’s and early 80’s was South African Junior Champions
In 2001 a renewed effort was undertaken to revive the band. In April 2005 we played in our first competition as part of a combined CBC Boksburg / Jeppe Novice Juvenile Pipe Band. Since this date, we have taken part in South African Junior Pipe Band Championships and a continuously placed in the top 3.
We currently have the required equipment and uniforms as well as a dedicated team of tutors headed by Matthew Keyzer a College Old Boy. The Band currently is in desperate need of new learners for pipes and drumming.
After every matric valedictory, the pipe band has played for our matrics with memories to carry for a lifetime.
Toastmasters Course (Gr. 10)
Effective communication plays a key role in achieving one’s goals in life and as such, it is important that students are given the opportunity to learn and practice these skills. To this end all Year 10 students will participate in a Communication and Leadership course, which takes place over an 8 week period.
The course is part of the Toastmasters International Communication and Leadership Program which is recognised world wide for its high standards and professionalism.
The course culminates in a Dinner Evening for the Parents where they will see and hear the boys put into practice the skills learnt in Impromptu Speaking, Prepared Speaking, Chairing of a Meeting and Evaluations.
Marimbas & Band
The marimba ensemble is made up of two bands; the Prep School and High School. These bands play occasionally College Masses, Liturgies and Assemblies. Out of College, the bands play at the Annual Marimba Festivals held around Gauteng.
The College Band continues to grow year in and year out. The band is an important facet of the Cultural Portfolio in the College as they play at Masses, Liturgies, Assemblies, Parishes and at many other functions where they are invited.
