As a proud member of the Edmund Rice Network, CBC Boksburg is deeply rooted in a global tradition of faith, education, service, and justice. But what exactly is the Edmund Rice Network, and what does it mean for our school community?

Who Was Edmund Rice?

Blessed Edmund Ignatius Rice was an Irish businessman turned educator and philanthropist who, in the early 1800s, dedicated his life to the education of poor and marginalized boys. His response to the injustice he witnessed was not one of passive observation, but one of bold, faith-driven action.

He founded the Christian Brothers, an order that would grow to impact lives across the world, and inspire generations of schools — including our own — to become beacons of hope, compassion, and excellence.

What is the Edmund Rice Network?

The Edmund Rice Education Beyond Borders (EREBB) is a global community of schools, individuals, and organisations inspired by Edmund’s vision. It extends beyond the formal structure of the Christian Brothers, uniting people who share a commitment to justice, peace, and the liberation of the oppressed.

The Network encourages all of its members — staff, students, alumni, and parents — to be active participants in transforming society, particularly in the lives of those on the margins.

CBC Boksburg’s Role in the Network

As part of the Edmund Rice network, CBC Boksburg is more than just a school. We are a faith community grounded in values such as:
